My Parents, My Idols ...

My Mother - the strongest and kindest person I know. Her heart is bigger than the world, she'll do anything for her children and grandchildren. Her dedication to life and getting through difficult times have inspired me to never give up on life, love, and beyond.

My Father - an artist at heart who's talent is humble yet so unique. His gift to my family is his patience and humor. Teaching his girls to follow their dreams no matter how impossible they seem.

I still watch them cuddle while watching a film, or hold hands while walking, I can only hope that one day I find a love like theirs.

" The most wonderful of all things in life is the discovery of another human being with whom one's relationship has a growing depth, beauty and joy as the years increase. This inner progressiveness of love between two human beings is a most marvelous thing; it cannot be found by looking for it or by passionately wishing for it. It is a sort of divine accident, and the most wonderful of all things in life. "

Home Grown Strength

Strength is found in the depth of pain, the place in which we all fear to face and struggle to remain unfamiliar with. When put in those moments and thrown into those obstacles, the body and mind have no choice but to react. We have the ability to train that reaction, to prepare ourselves for it.

What doesnt kill you makes you stronger, what makes you stronger makes you wiser and what makes you wiser prepares you - emotionally and physically.

When in tact with your own attitude and inner strength, you can build bridges larger than mountains and place them where ever needed.

Start building today, face your fears and flaws and get comfortable with that uncomfortable feeling. Sure, we can all live with the simplicity of an uncomplicated life - but where will we learn? Where will we grow? How will we know what to do when a burden is due?

Master your own weakness and watch how it grows into strength.

With love,

Dissimilar

whether we allow ourselves to swallow the naked truth,
it is poured upon us while we mask our weakness
forcing us to be become
haunted by the instant, predicting that,
it will complete our future.

the only infidelity we possess,
are to those in which we perceive ourselves.
attempting to hide our own identity
to avoid being a part of
not only ones entity,
but another too.
we separate our beings,
our capacity, and our secrets . . .

we bluff our own beings,
we conceal,
we resent,
but do not tell . . .
struggling to remain
dissimilar, forgetting we are
all the same.

I keep the telephone of my mind open to peace, harmony, health, love and abundance. Then, whenever doubt, anxiety or fear try to call me, they keep getting a busy signal - and soon they'll forget my number.

Strange Love

A strange feeling of enlightenment ‬
Excites her when she gets close‬
He’s disregarded by very few,‬
Respected and held high by most‬

His thoughts are deep and fragile ‬
His presence is strong and sleek ‬
She felt it before, and feels it again ‬
With him, her worries turn weak.‬

His courage uplifts the world ‬
His passion; to live without regret ‬
She feels the balance and control ‬
How wonderful that these two have met ‬
‪‬
Together, arriving on a different level ‬ ‪
A million flowers have bloomed, eternity exists ‬
‪The aura around is beautiful and bright ‬
She feels weightless, he feels limitless ‬

And if somehow the world separates these two ‬
She will wake up again, and find him in fate ‬
For when her time is wrong, his time is right ‬
And nothing in the universe separates soul mates ‬

GANESHA (Skt., Ganeśa; Hindi, Ganesh) is that aspect of creative intelligence which removes obstacles to success, happiness, and fulfillment.

Here are some of the most important symbols associated with Ganesh.

• His broad crown is an invitation to think big.
• The tiny eyes speak of the importance of concentration and attention to detail for success in any foray.
• One chief form of concentration is to listen to others more, and talk less. This is symbolised by the huge elephantine ears and small mouth He sports.
• Ganesh has only one tusk, with the other broken off. This symbolises the importance of holding on only to the good and discarding the bad.
• The trunk of Ganesh symbolises the importance of being efficient and adaptable in order to be successful in one's ventures. The curvature is also said to represent the rising of the kundalini (spiritual energy that is believed to be coiled serpent-like at the base of the spine) powers.
• His large tummy points to the necessity of digesting all that life has to offer—the good, the bad, and the ugly.
• The abhaya mudra (gesture of fearlessness) of His lower right hand symbolises Ganesh's blessings and protection on a person's journey through life, especially the spiritual one.
• In His upper right hand, Ganesh usually holds an axe, with which He is said to cut of all attachments.
• He pulls the devotee nearer to the spiritual path by the rope that He carries in His upper left hand.
• He offers rewards for penances (sadhana) done with the modak (type of confection, usually made from rice flour and a stuffing of jaggery, coconut, etc.) He holds in His lower left hand.
• The bowls and baskets of offerings at Ganesh's feet are there to symbolise that the entire world, and all its choicest pleasures, are out there for the taking.
• Ganesh's tiny pet and vehicle, his mouse, bowing down close by, is there to indicate that though a little desire is good, it is essential for one to master it. You have to ride your desires and not vice versa.

What do you do when you're all tied up in your problems, and you come to a point where you think "how did I get here?" or "why haven't I been happy in the past few months?" These are my 5 ideas of living a balanced soulful life. So simple, yet we all seem to forget about the easy solutions when we're too busy focusing on the little issues in life.

• Stay optimistic - No matter what the case, event, or circumstance is, it’s important to keep a smile on your face. If you’re facing an obstacle that looks “impossible” to overcome, chances are, you won’t overcome it – ever. If you look at something knowing that you have the capability to at least make yourself feel good about it (because of your intelligence, knowledge, and experience), then you’ll at least end with a result you’ll be happy and pleased about. It’s important to never put yourself down. You don’t like putting people down around you, so why should you do that to yourself?

• Have a few good friends (or drinks) - You don’t need to be friends with everyone around you, and not everyone has to like you, either. But if you have a solid group of friends to surround yourself with, you’ll know who you can turn to for what. I’m fortunate enough to have a few close girlfriends, who I love and I know love me back. There’s trust, sincerity, and humour in all of our friendships. And I wouldn’t trade that for the “approval” from the rest of the world. Just joking about the drinks part, unless you’re having caesars, of course.

• Stay close to your family - You may have a sister that moved to Europe, or divorced parents who barely speak, but that doesn’t mean that you need to distance yourself. If you feel bad about drifting off from a family member, or guilty that you don’t spend enough time with them, then start reaching out today. Buy your Mom flowers when she’s least expecting it, or go golfing with your Dad instead of hitting up a beach with friends. I have 3 amazing sisters who are all unique in their own way, and even though we fight, I depend on them as my rocks; as I know they do too. Sometimes, the people that will understand you most are the ones who you share genes with.

• Spend time with yourself - You don’t need to occupy yourself with outings every time you’re out of the office or class. Spending time with yourself also means getting comfortable with your own personality. Read books, rent movies, paint your nails, go rollerblading; do things that you know will excersice your body and mind without depending on other people. I try to dedicate at least 2 days a week where I hang out in my place, redecorating, relaxing, and soul searching. I always wake up the next morning feeling refreshed and happy.

• Laugh - And I mean, out loud, so loud until your abs hurt and you feel a little tinkle in your pants. Hang around a crowd that you know has a good sense of humor. People you can make laugh and who will return the favour, genuinely. Don’t be afraid to make yourself laugh either, if you’re feeling down and low, remember a silly thing that happened to you a few days back and don’t hesitate to let out a little giggle. No one will judge you, I promise. Just don’t do it in the middle of a meeting.

Timeless

I don't always see the light. Sometimes, the sun isn't facing my direction. But I tell ya, when it is... it reminds me that all the darkness, all the days of doubt and question, were meant for me to see the sun shine that much brighter. Because that beauty, that happiness, is eternal, and shines timelessly through my moments of fear.

Mindfulness

• Mindful communication – When you are speaking or listening to someone else, become aware of the sound of your own voice, or the voice of the other person. Each time your mind wonders off into other thoughts, kindly guide your attention back to the conversation without criticising yourself if you can.

• Mindful walking – The next time you’re walking somewhere, notice the sense of touch between your feet and the ground. Observe how your weight seamlessly transfers from one foot to the other, almost effortlessly. Smell the roses. Be in the presence of the present moment.

• Mindful exercise – The next time you’re in the gym, going for a jog, swimming or playing a sport, become mindful of what’s going on. Focus your mindful attention on your own body, thoughts, emotions or the environment around you. Become curious about your experience.

• Mindful working – Whatever your work is, by paying more attention to what you’re doing, you’re bound to achieve better results. Try reducing the amount of effort you make to pay attention, and let the focus be effortless, relaxed and calm, as best you can.

• Mindful holidays – It’s easy to spend half your holiday thinking about the next holiday rather than actually being there. Feel the gentle warmth of the sun, put the camera down every now and then and connect with the scenery with your own eyes. Breathe the fresh air. Be grateful for having the time and money to go on holiday.

• Mindful waiting – You need to wait in a queue in shops, in your car, on public transport. Instead of becoming frustrated, practise some mindfulness of breath. When you’re in traffic, notice the colour of the sky or trees. When in a supermarket, feel the calming sensation of your own breath.

• Mindful listening to music – Get yourself comfortable, switch on your favourite piece of music and simply listen, moment by moment. As usual, after a while your mind will begin thinking of other things – just gently guide your mindful attention back to the sounds of the music. Be aware of both the sounds and the silence between the sounds. Notice how all sounds arise and fall back into the ever-present silence.

• Be accepting of others – Allow other people to be human and make mistakes. Be prepared to accept apologies and forgive others for their indiscretions.

• Stimulate your appetite for knowledge and experience – Stretch yourself by reading, studying and taking on new skills.

• Live in the moment – Pause to sniff those roses. Take a break from speculating about the future and sifting over the past. Instead, put the full weight of your attention into the here and now.

Porcelain

If I could create my ideal mannequin
I would allow her to bleed and breathe.
To be humble when she is envied,
to never feel worthless
when devotion is not returned,
because she would sense the superior.
The awful would not come near,
for her poise would craft a wall
so tall that they could never peek over...

Her skin would be of porcelain,
her cheeks a rosy blush,
her eyes would be the modest of green,
that could not be defined until they aligned
with someone as sincere.
Her lips of pastel pink dye,
could not be kissed until they beamed.
And the gentleness of her little hands,
could only be touched by the finest.

This mannequin would not fall short,
for she would possess what we all strive for,
she would keep what we all give away.
And her eyes would tear only when
they crossed the bright sunlight.

If I could create my own mannequin,
I would make her everything that we all desire
a little more of heaven, and a little less of sin,
a little more of truth and a little less a liar.
This mannequin would have the eyes that could see,
A little more of what this world was meant to be.

A lucid dreamer can control his happiness and stregnth in a place that exists with his eyes closed. But a lucid liver can control his happiness and strength with his eyes open, heart awake, and with the world watching. Do you live your life building castles in the sky, or building a sky in your castle?

Hidden Rainbows

Colours fade, feelings weaken, and clammy hands turn dry
People change, music stops, and purity finds it’s lie
The past repeats, the slide gets rusty, becoming too tired to try

New beginnings...

Leave that behind, grab that new frame of mind,
Sit below the soft sky and above the fractured roads
don't look down, just climb,
let the chapters unload

Replace panic with control
Inhale strange air and look the future face to face
Now, behind the wheel of the soul
Drive to that perfect place

Gather your baggage and abandon it, the fire will launch on own
Smirk at hesitation and glide past with pride
Welcome the unknown,
Enjoy the sting, enjoy the mess, enjoy the ride

A Great Read

A good friend bought me this book for my birthday last month. I read it on my flights to and from NYC. Ordered my bottle of white, sipped away, and was glued to the words of Robin Sharma. It's wonderful to know there are people out there who want to share their wise words with the entire world. What an inspiring book, seriously.

"In the fable, the garden is a symbol for the mind. If you care for your mind, if you nurture it and if you cultivate it just like a fertile, rich garden, it will blossom far beyond your expectations. But if you let the weeds take root, lasting peace of mind and deep inner harmony will always elude you"

My Drink and My Cigarette

find in my mind,
a place to sip my drink,
don't even think, let my anxiety sink,
and like ink,
let the red trickle down my throat
like Stevenson wrote,
" wine is bottled poetry ", so I read
the letters filling up my need
my eyes are closed, I feel such greed,
proceed ...

a Parliament is between my fingers
my desire lingers,
the glow lights my coffin nail,
I inhale,
and it fills my body like a plug
akin to my favourite drug,
I forget,
what it's like to sweat,
over the little things
I've grown these wings,
I'm bursting of power and drive,
this taste and this pull,
have given something fresh to life

some say death is near,
but it's already here,
I've witnessed my own crash
one hand I carry my blood
and in the other, my ash

Breathing means Living

Holding your breath underwater prevents you from dying. Holding your breath out of water prevents you from living. Breathe in – live out LOUD! Go see things, discover, travel, make friends, build bridges, burn 'em, eat sushi, prank call someone, bungee jump, sleep naked, sleep with someone else naked, kick them out of your place in the morning, have a drink on a Monday night, light a joint on a Sunday night, meditate, watch a kids' movie, stand up for yourself, make a mistake - purposely, break a heart, buy someone a coffee, spend your paycheck on a designer bag, cry over spent money, stay home with Mom on a Saturday night, learn to play the guitar, run, run, run! And get started, today.
